Neil Hunter is a pseudonym of the prolific Lancashire-born writer Michael R. Linaker. As Neil Hunter, Mike wrote two classic western series, BODIE THE STALKER and JASON BRAND. Under the name Richard Wyler he produced four stand-alone westerns, INCIDENT AT BUTLER’S STATION, THE SAVAGE JOURNEY, BRIGHAM’S WAY and TRAVIS. Another western, HIGH KILL, was later published in the SUNDANCE series as BOUNTY KILLER. His western output can also be found under the names ‘Dan Stewart’, ‘John C. Danner’ and ‘Frederick H. Christian’, the latter name employed when he ghost-wrote an additional five titles in Frederick Nolan’s popular FRANK ANGEL series. Mike has written three ‘nasty’ horror novels under his own name, but since the late 1980s has become best-known as one of the most popular contributors to Gold Eagle’s MACK BOLAN series, chronicling the adventures of PHOENIX FORCE, THE EXECUTIONER and STONY MAN, as well as his own action-adventure series, CADE.

GREAT writer. For the money spent, it was well worth. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys reading Westerns
Well here we are again, Chet Ballard and Jess McCall first meeting...Gunners Creek is the name of the town that these became acquainted under strange condition. McCall was fighting for his life as a town bullies had him surrounded and a gun pointed at him, he didn't have his gun and saw his life passing before him, not one person would throw him a gun until he heard 'hey cowboy' he looked up here comes a rifle tossed to him now he's on equal terms, sort of, shots the bullies and that's how those two relationship started. In this town like all other town's in the west, you'll have bullies running/treating those town's as personal banks. Paying protection monies just bullies plain and simple. Their hired guns went around beating, robbing and raping the inhabitants of ranches in the area. Chet Ballard was looking for a man who left him for dead, after murdering and entire family. That guys name was Wade Temple and his henchman Rio... The terrible two...Well this guy Temple tried killing Ballard..not a smart move...Ballard and McCall both went on the hunt with the town drunk Hodge an old tracker, who was a lot help but during this hunt, sadly he was murdered by a bullet from Wade Temple's men. Bottom line Ballard gets his man with McCall's help. Your going to like this series lots of action, makes you feel your riding with them. You know ducking bullets, taking care of your horse, enjoying the country side. Just like when you watch the old black/white cowboy movies of Long Ranger & Tonto, Hopper Long Cassidy you get an idea how the old town's looked, the settlers and the bushwackers. I hope Mr. Hunter will write more about Ballard and McCall those two are street fighters just all round men who roam the west helping out where they can..So fellow western readers keep your campfires burning and watch your trail....you never know...
